Salsa, Salsa, HOT HOT HOT!!!
Tonight, May 4th, is the start of one of my FresYes favorite times of the year. No I’m not talking about Cinco de Mayo, nachos at a Grizzlies game or a Fresno State Salsa taste test. I’m talking about “Salsa in the Park” held in the oval at River Park between Yoshino’s and Teazers.
Rowan and Co from the Starline Salsa Club have for the last few years held this outdoor classic summer series in River Park on every other Monday through the summer months. The music starts and the dancing begins to heat up around 7:30 and runs until 10 for a family friendly outdoors date. The River Park setting being framed with the palm trees and shops makes it unlike any other Salsa venue in town and when teamed up with hot latin music filling the air you can’t help but fall in love it Salsa in the Park.
Back when I was introduced to Salsa in FresYes it was the late night club, drinks flowing and music cranked up in some dark corner of town. For most of our Salsa dates that’s a fun mix but none of those venues have the feel the tropics you get with Salsa in the Park. With salsa dancers being a pretty tight knit community you can be sure to see the same salseros from night to night and club to club. Yet Salsa in the Park has its regulars that you will only see out at the Monday night venue. That could be the fact that the stroller crowd is usually out in force but no matter the dancing is as good as in any club in town on any night of the week. Even if you are a beginner or all the way up to the seasoned vet Salsa in the park is the perfect blend of the tropics, great dance and being close to home. Lace up your dancing shoes for a night of hot, hot fun and get into the swing of it from now until late August.
You don’t know how to salsa you say…..
Who cares!
Come out, try out a few steps, perhaps a spin or two and have some fun. The true salsa dancers out there will be more than happy to help you learn a few tricks and you just may find a new outdoors hobby right smack dab in the middle of River Park.
