As I scroll through my Facebook and Instagram feed, seeing all the happy faces visiting various Central Coast beaches, I feel it is my duty to point out what is in my opinion, the best place to stop for a bite and a bathroom break between Fresno and the Central Coast: Bravo Farms.
Bravo Farms in Kettleman City (Bravo’s 4th and largest location) is built to look like a block straight out of the old west, and you can’t miss it as you drive on 41 South towards 46 West to the beach. This stretch of road is so heavily traveled by Fresnans and other San Joaquin Valley locals, that it just makes sense to have Bravo there, family-owned and operated and offering Valley fresh produce and food.
If you’re on your way to the beach or home, and looking for both a clean restroom and something good to eat – you’re in luck. Bravo’s “Wild Jack’s” friendly, quick service barbecue offers tasty, slow-cooked brisket and pulled pork and smokey tri-tip and even street tacos. My husband and I recently had lunch there and we both enjoyed our food very much. My brisket sandwich was tasty, sweet and smoky and filled with tender beef. My husband’s pulled pork sandwich was topped with a very fresh slaw and we both enjoyed perfectly golden fries with a side of chipotle ranch dressing.
Bravo Farms offers travelers much more than just a meal however – while there, you can go upstairs to view Farmtiques (antique farm equipment), shop in the gift shop (filled with locally made gift items, fresh produce, delicious cheeses (we splurged on habanero cheddar and garlic jack… yum!) and my stuffed animals than any kid could need (yet they’ll probably still want to hug them all). They even sell that amazing Volcano candle they always burn in Anthropologie stores! Be sure to stop by the ice cream counter, too for a cone of your favorite flavor.
If you’re traveling with your furry friends, there is a dog park/play area so Fido can stretch his legs and get out of the car for a bit. And if you have your little ones in tow, there is a playground including a truck and sand play area.
So, next time you’re driving between your home in FresYes land, and the beautiful Central Coast, stop in and purchase some delicious Valley produce, enjoy a barbecue lunch and explore all there is to see at Bravo Farms. You’ll be glad you did!
