Avast, me hearty! It’s time to brush off those gold doubloons and slap on your eye patch, because Pirate Season has landed in FresYes.
How do I know it’s Pirate Season? The signs all align: Disney’s millionth (okay 5th) installment of Pirates of the Caribbean will be in theaters on May 26, Johnny Depp ran wild through Disneyland a few weeks ago, and the Fresno Pirate Festival is this weekend.
Of course, Fresno doesn’t have white sands or an abundance of salt water, but don’t let this keep you from a jolly (roger) good time. You just need cannons, costumes, and of course, ale, to make a memorable pirate weekend.
Luckily, the Pirate Festival covers this plunderful trifecta. So grab your parrot and your best pirate accent, because this is your chance to walk around growling and mumbling without any judgement. In fact, this is probably the only socially acceptable place (besides a boat) to yell, “Swab the poop deck!” — which is really reason enough to attend, right?
If you’re wondering what pirates do all day, the entertainment schedule is chockfull. Apparently, pirates enjoy dancing, music, loud noises, and facial hair.
There will be a beard and mustache contest, and belly dancers from Banat Tanjora Ghawazee Bellydance, plus cannon demonstrations and shopping opportunities. Finally, there will also be music from Barley Blane throughout the day to get you in the swashbuckling mood.
