The team behind last year’s highly successful breakfast tribute to Notorious B.I.G. is at it again.
Big Poppa’s Pop-up Café will take place for one morning only—Friday, March 9 (the anniversary of B.I.G.’s death)—at Take 3 Burgers, 1230 Fulton Street, in downtown Fresno.
Marketing Director for the Fresno Grizzlies Sam Hansen and co-owner of Take 3 Burgers Desirae Washington put together last year’s tribute. They are the same organizers of 2016’s pop-up restaurant honoring the late Tupac Shakur on the 20th anniversary of the rapper’s death. That effort, Powamekka Café, was a huge hit, earning national media coverage from Time, Rolling Stone, and Mashable.
Inspired by Biggie’s lyrics, Big Poppa’s Pop-up Café will open at 5:46 a.m. (a time fans will recognize from his song “Warning”) and serve a breakfast of T-bone steak, cheese eggs, and Welch’s grape juice (from his song “Big Poppa”).
The café will feature a Notorious B.I.G.-inspired artwork show and in-house DJ playing a mix of B.I.G. music.
Seating is extremely limited, so a reservation is required to experience the exhibit. Tickets are $50, and include the breakfast, a commemorative t-shirt, and exclusive first access to the art exhibit, limited merchandise, and specialty food. Reservations can be made here.
Tribute concert and art show
Just like last year, a tribute concert and art show will take place later that night, also at Take 3. It will feature local artists performing Biggie covers, including Ray Yung, The BOX, and local rapper MC Wicks, who will be assuming the identity of Wickie Smalls for the evening and will perform “The 10 Snack Commandments.” DJ Kay Rich will also be in attendance.
The party goes from 5:30 p.m. to midnight, and there’s a $5 cover.
