The Community Media Access Collaborative (CMAC) is challenging students, amateurs, and professionals to create a 3 to 5-minute short film in just 60 hours.
Competitors will go head-to-head with other teams in the “CMAC 60 Hour Film Race,” a fast-paced competition where participants must write, shoot, and edit a film adhering to a theme with specific elements as determined by the judges. There are two divisions: Professional and Aspiring Filmmaker. The top three films in each division will receive cash prizes.
“The race is open to anyone, from high school and college students to amateur filmmakers, to local professionals,” says Bryan Harley, Director of Operations at CMAC. “It’s a great opportunity to be creative and competitive.”
Deadline to register is Wednesday, Sept. 19
Teams can consist of one or more people and the team leader must register for the competition before Sept. 19.
The challenge officially kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 9 a.m. at CMAC, 1555 Van Ness Ave. in Fresno. Participants have until 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, to complete their films. The themes and specific elements will be assigned to each team at the kickoff—no work can begin until then.
Each short film will be judged by a panel consisting of members of CMAC’s Board of Directors and staff. All films completed in time will be screened at a free special event on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. at CMAC. Following the screening, the judges’ results will be announced and cash prizes will be awarded: $500 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place, and $100 for 3rd place in each division.
Last year, CMAC held its first film race, which challenged local creatives to make a film in just 12 hours. Over 50 teams competed, and 29 films were finished on time and screened to the public.
