Good Times Cafe

I grew up in Fresno. Relaxed in its calm breezes, listened with my dad to the crack of the bat at little league baseball games when I was a kid and now take my son to do the same at minor league games. I broadened my mind at its schools (I went to high school right here at San Joaquin Memorial, and to college at Fresno State!) I love that if I drive for two hours in one direction, I can be in the mountains. For two hours in another, luxuriating on a California beach. I can enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of San Francisco or Los Angeles, but still be able to come home to relaxation, calm, and quiet.

I love where I live, and I also love what I do. I'm lucky to be able to work in a profession in which I get to build relationships; one that has me meeting new people each and every day and helping them to build new lives in my beloved city. I'm lucky enough to work in a profession in which I can marry cutting-edge technologies and marketing techniques to good, old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work. I am lucky enough to work in a profession that allows me to work as an advocate for my clients; to use every tool at my disposal to get a job done well for them, and with as little stress and expense as possible.

Although you don’t see many doing it near the theater at Sierra Vista Mall, positioning your new business within eye shot of a busy movie theater seems like a great idea to me. Hopefully the combination of good food, courteous service, fair prices, and the location will translate into some long term success for these valley local entrepreneurs.

The cafe is 50’s themed from the red booths to the music and menu. Seeing ‘The Fonz’ on the menu brought back some great television memories… Do you recall him water skiing over the sharks?!

I opted for The Dreamer. A 1/3 pound all beef patty grilled and topped with thick bacon, cheese, and mushrooms, served on a fresh bun. It did not disappoint. The portion of fries was generous and complimented my dripping with goodness burger well (they did offer a salad or soup as an alternative).

The menu had plenty of healthy choices to go along with its rather sinful delights of cheese, chili, & malts!

Kings River Rafting

Anybody who has ever lived in Fresno knows that next to the community itself, the next best thing about living here is the location. Being less than three hours away from most any place a person would ever want to ‘get away to’ is truly wonderful!

For me it’s been too long so I have planned a trip for this coming June. Yes, I am one of those handsome 😉 men in the photo. I encourage you to do the same.

Well, if you are looking to get away and you want a unique summer adventure, look no further than a day trip of whitewater rafting on the Kings River!.

Prior to my first trip, I thought river rafting was only for the adventurers who thrive on adrenaline rushes, and while a Class 5 river may offer that, the Kings River is a Class 3 river that is perfect for beginning to intermediate rafters.

The Kings River is located at the border of Sierra and Sequoia National Forests; it’s famous for its long, exhilarating roller coaster- like rapids. The typical season is from May through July but if you plan a trip for March through early June you should keep in mind that it is a natural snowmelt river, and can be very cold at that time. Early season rafters often wear wetsuits, which are available to rent from most tour companies. My experience, great by the way, has only been with Kings River Expeditions but you may be able to find other options searching the internet.

Seriously folks if you have never been white water rafting, treat yourself to the experience. There is nothing like observing nature while floating down a river…
Ok, well maybe the ‘we did it’ moment after negotiating down a series of rapids is a close second!

When you see hundreds of homes in a year you are bound to see some strange things from time to time. For instance, recently while showing a fixer upper in historic Fresno High, my client peeked around the back of the garage and immediately let out a “whaaaat?”. Of course I knew it had to be good so with iPhone camera in hand I rushed back to meet him and snapped the picture of the tombstone you see above. Yes a tombstone placed in an area that what was somewhat shaped like a grave. My client decided to pass on this one… If all other things were to your liking, would you buy or would the tombstone turn you away?

There is something magical about the moment a Realtor gets to hand over the keys to a home. Perhaps as magical as that memory you may have of the key you got when you first went to Storyland. Surely you recall using it to hear the story of the Three Little Pigs and other childhood fairy-tales?! Was yours purple, red, or yellow? Perhaps it was blue like mine. Rumors are that a special limited edition gold key will be available soon to celebrate Storylands 50th anniversary!

Storyland opened a few years after Playland, on May 19th 1962. It immediately captured the hearts and imaginations of children across the valley. For those of you who may be new to the valley, Storyland is a walk-through park of Mother Goose stories and nursery rhymes, including classics like Jack and Jill, Goldilocks & the Three Bears, Peter Pan, Humpty Dumpty and more! It is located next door to Playland, a small family amusement park with 13 rides. Some of my kids’ favorites include the famous Willis B. Kyle Express train, the Big Rocko ferris wheel, and the thrilling Octopus ride. During the summer months Splash Junction provides a fun way to cool off!

While Storyland remained opened this winter, Playland re-opens from winter break this month on February 11th 2012.  Both are located inside Roeding park at 890 W. Belmont Avenue. For more information, pricing, and hours of operation check out their website at http://storylandplayland.com

When is the last time you visited either park? While the nostalgia remains so much has been changed and added to over the years. Make a point this spring of bringing back some childhood memories and creating some new ones by visiting this historic Fresyes landmark!

It’s always interesting to see what your money can get elsewhere but do you know what your money could get here? I took a peak at all the choices and chose one randomly to tell Al about.

I had another place planned for today but when I realized what store I was parked near my plans changed. What could be better than to go from a small locally owned hardware store located in Historic Fresno High to a corporate owned farm and ranch store in North East Clovis?! Despite being in this area often (one of my favorite sandwich spots is located in the same shopping center), I confess I had never noticed it before. From the moment I stepped out of my truck I knew Tractor Supply Company was going to be everything I could expect, and more. Inside they sell tools, trailering equipment, feed, ranch clothes, and you guessed it tractor supplies. The staff was courteous and was quick to tell me the about the history of the store. This successful retail store began in 1939 in North Dakota and is now in 44 states nationwide. So like they say, ‘Whether you’re caring for a backyard, or a “back 40”, we have the products and services to help you get the job done.’
