One of the best things about living in Fresno, California is its location to so many other great places. If you love the beach but also love a big city, If you love the smell and feel of a forest but also the rush of a fast roller coaster then Fresyes may be the place for you!
Laura Corey
A special thank you to my first guest in front of the camera, the lovely Laura Corey. Neither of us really knew what to expect but I think it came out nice and it gives you a peak at who Laura is and some of the things she loves about living in Fresno, California! While I don’t suspect our ‘People’ series will have me in the same frame as our guest often, I can guarantee that you will get more of the 5 questions in 59 seconds!
p.s. I apologize for the sound, who would have guessed that little fountain would roar like waterfall in Yosemite!
Buffalo Wild Wings
Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar has opened! Geez that’s a mouthful… which of course seems appropriate for a wing joint!
I’m all about supporting locally owned establishments and I know this isn’t one but it is employing a whole bunch of locals and that’s a great thing in my book, so along with a group of friends we went and gave it a try.
It looks like your typical sports bar but with some nice upgrades. For one, lots of giant screen TV’s, they also have digital trivia and poker on some of them that you can play via your iPhone (so much nicer than having to wait for a console… remember Bennigans had them while they were still in business?). Also of note in the ‘upgrade’ department… kids are given what looks like a giant iPad that they can play games on, which I thought was very cool till I noticed the 7 year old behind me playing digital beer pong?! I guess you can’t start them too early right!
You don’t have to be in to chicken wings to enjoy a meal here, there is a whole menu of sports bar type foods for you to choose from. We actually had some of the pulled pork nachos, they were good, not ‘Neighbors’ good but definitely worth having again.
Ok so what about the wings? Tasty! Really tasty actually. Our group tried all 15 sauces and 4 different rubs and not one of us had the same favorite, that’s another plus in my book. My favorite sauce was the ‘wild’, the second hottest sauce they offer. The hottest, called ‘Blazin’ has great flavor but way too hot for me to have more than a couple. Speaking of Blazin, they have a contest in which, if you can eat 12 wings with the blazin’ sauce, and devour them to the bone in six minutes without any water or napkins at your side you get a free t-shirt and your picture on the wall. No one in our group did the challenge but we each had one, or in Niko’s case 3! Check out the video for taste!
I suppose I shouldn’t send you on a SCVNGR hunt… Buffalo Wild Wings is located on Shaw Ave just east of Chestnut (across from the Save Mart center).
Growing more than grapes!
In Fresno we grow more than great fruits, nuts, and vegetables! According to the national census, in 1860, just 4,605 people lived in Fresno County. In January 2010 it was reported that the number had grown to 953,761! It looks like the secret may be out 🙂
I Was Barn a Patriot
Shortly after September 11, 2001 driving down Highway 41 at Avenue 12 changed… It was a much needed change. Not that anyone ever minds driving towards somewhere as beautiful as Yosemite National Park but after the tragedy of 9/11, such a show of patriotism was a breath of fresh air.
Have you ever asked or wondered about who was responsible for this unique expression of love for our country? I know I have.
A little digging revealed Robert and Karen McCaffrey, you may know them as the real estate development firm here in Fresno, are the ones to thank.
Just another example of why so many say FresYES!
Clovis on the Today Show?!
On last Friday’s episode of the Today Show’s Real Estate segment with Barbara Corcoran they showed some examples across the country of what you could get for under $450,000. It’s always interesting to see what your money can get elsewhere but do you know what your money could get here? I took a peak at all the choices and chose one randomly to tell Al about.
If you like the idea of me giving a Fresno/Clovis example of whatever they feature on the Today Show please leave a comment and perhaps I will make it a weekly feature!
Love those Pop Rocks!
Speaking of Fresno’s amazing online community, I would be heart broken if I let today, Valentines Day, pass by without sharing with you one of my favorite blogs… Fashionably Bombed! Katherine and Flannery Good are the creators and co-host of this mostly video blog full of parodies, innuendo, and creative drink recipes. Their most recent episode is ‘Pop Rock Of Love‘ ! in which the ladies rock your world with a recipe that includes Pop Rocks (remember those crazy candies that pop in your mouth? My favorite was grape!) and Bret Michaels! My two favorite episodes are ‘Snow Informer‘ and the ‘How To Make A Mojito‘. I would suggest you watch all the episodes in reverse order so you can see them develop their unique style. Cheers! J
