If you had driven downtown a few weekends ago you may have needed a moment of pause to collect your thoughts and consider where you were. Certainly volleyball nets, tons of sand, palm trees and a 45-foot water slide weren’t the norm… but how cool would it be if it was?! The weekend’s activities were courtesy of Club Once Casino. Make sure to give them a visit in the near future as a way saying thanks for making Fresno… Fresyes
Curious as a bride with a June wedding, I did some research and as this chart will tell you, it’s not often in rains in Fresno in June and when it does it’s certainly not much. Well except maybe for this year. On the 4th we were at about .35 of an inch for the month of June. It rained yesterday, it’s raining right now (Sunday evening) and most forecasters say it will continue into Tuesday. I don’t know about you but I’m loving it!
It’s nice to see that as of today you can tag your favorite company/brand/celebrities Facebook page in photos like you do currently with photos of your friends. In this example I have tagged a glass of Pinot Noir that some friends of mine were enjoying with CRU Wine Company (a local Wine maker). Note that although I do ‘like’ CRU Wine Company (If you don’t yet… you should 🙂 you don’t have to ‘like’ the Facebook page in order to tag them.
A special thank you to my first guest in front of the camera, the lovely Laura Corey. Neither of us really knew what to expect but I think it came out nice and it gives you a peak at who Laura is and some of the things she loves about living in Fresno, California! While I don’t suspect our ‘People’ series will have me in the same frame as our guest often, I can guarantee that you will get more of the 5 questions in 59 seconds!
p.s. I apologize for the sound, who would have guessed that little fountain would roar like waterfall in Yosemite!
Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar has opened! Geez that’s a mouthful… which of course seems appropriate for a wing joint!
I’m all about supporting locally owned establishments and I know this isn’t one but it is employing a whole bunch of locals and that’s a great thing in my book, so along with a group of friends we went and gave it a try.
It looks like your typical sports bar but with some nice upgrades. For one, lots of giant screen TV’s, they also have digital trivia and poker on some of them that you can play via your iPhone (so much nicer than having to wait for a console… remember Bennigans had them while they were still in business?). Also of note in the ‘upgrade’ department… kids are given what looks like a giant iPad that they can play games on, which I thought was very cool till I noticed the 7 year old behind me playing digital beer pong?! I guess you can’t start them too early right!
You don’t have to be in to chicken wings to enjoy a meal here, there is a whole menu of sports bar type foods for you to choose from. We actually had some of the pulled pork nachos, they were good, not ‘Neighbors’ good but definitely worth having again.
Ok so what about the wings? Tasty! Really tasty actually. Our group tried all 15 sauces and 4 different rubs and not one of us had the same favorite, that’s another plus in my book. My favorite sauce was the ‘wild’, the second hottest sauce they offer. The hottest, called ‘Blazin’ has great flavor but way too hot for me to have more than a couple. Speaking of Blazin, they have a contest in which, if you can eat 12 wings with the blazin’ sauce, and devour them to the bone in six minutes without any water or napkins at your side you get a free t-shirt and your picture on the wall. No one in our group did the challenge but we each had one, or in Niko’s case 3! Check out the video for taste!
I suppose I shouldn’t send you on a SCVNGR hunt… Buffalo Wild Wings is located on Shaw Ave just east of Chestnut (across from the Save Mart center).
In Fresno we grow more than great fruits, nuts, and vegetables! According to the national census, in 1860, just 4,605 people lived in Fresno County. In January 2010 it was reported that the number had grown to 953,761! It looks like the secret may be out 🙂
Shortly after September 11, 2001 driving down Highway 41 at Avenue 12 changed… It was a much needed change. Not that anyone ever minds driving towards somewhere as beautiful as Yosemite National Park but after the tragedy of 9/11, such a show of patriotism was a breath of fresh air.
Have you ever asked or wondered about who was responsible for this unique expression of love for our country? I know I have.
A little digging revealed Robert and Karen McCaffrey, you may know them as the real estate development firm here in Fresno, are the ones to thank.
Just another example of why so many say FresYES!
