A table made from scrap wood once used to make a bomb shelter. Birdhouses crafted from papier-mâché, jute, twine and canvas. Damaged sugar pine trees from the Sierra Nevada mountains turned into stump stools perfect for a quick rest.
Who knew that with ‘I do’ such a creative partnership would take shape? And that things discarded, cast aside and all but forgotten would be turned into such treasures for your home? Well, Danae and Vance Eslick knew. That’s who. And now we all get to share in this crafty couple’s creations because they’re bringing them to us via their new business, Refined Habitat.
Check out the couple’s love story and their love of turning the old into the new. And hear why they’re excited to bring their re-worked, re-imagined and un-earthed treasures to the public for the first time at the Old Town Flea Market this weekend in Clovis.
BEHIND THE SCENES:
When I arrived at their Clovis home, I was shocked to find that Danae had merchandised an entire corner of the kitchen where the interview would take place. Laid out on furniture the couple had made, were vintage display pieces, hand-made leather clutches, one of their signature birdhouses and, in front of it all, two beach chairs the couple had recently acquired. Here are a few snapshots of the gorgeous set-up and some behind the scenes photos of the couple’s workspace (aka the garage).
