October can be summed up by two colors. Orange and Pink.
Orange for the colors of fall and Halloween when the seasons change, harvests are made and children enjoy the month long build up to trick or treating with friends decked out in the seasons best costumes.
Pink though is the color for Breast Cancer awareness month and an issue nearly all of us have been touched by at some point.
So much so that all you have to do is tune into any sporting event and you will see pink everywhere from the players uniforms to the officiating staff all decked out with a pink Nike this or a Reebok that. While this corporate rolling pink commercial is great for awareness its action and involvement that makes a difference in our homes and in support of our loved ones either lost or fighting hard.
Here in FresYes where the rubber meets the road people are stepping up and getting out to be involved in support.
We have running events like the Susan Komen races, awareness walks, bike rides and the list goes on and on. Yesterday my wife event went to Barbells for Boobs at Effectus Cross Fit at Herndon and Blackstone where owners Stacey and Max held a Cross Fit fundraiser where participants did back to back to back Cross Fit workouts all in the names of those they love. The event was highlighted by the arrival of the Fresno Acura pink name car where every signature that is signed onto the vehicle this month will mean a one dollar donation to breast cancer research.
In and out of FresYes women, men and children are lining up to do their part and more importantly show they care to those affected by this awful disease.
For me every pink clad walker I see is for my Aunt Sheila and my wife’s close friend Kiki one who lost and one who epically won the battle.
Its important we remember and support all women, and men, who get dealt this ugly card so before the fun of Halloween and orange takes over think of a name, dress in pink and put your running shoes on the road.
