Is the summer heat putting your fitness routine on hold? It’s time to get back at it. There are plenty of races taking place in August across the Central Valley. Many are fundraisers for local charities and organizations, and there’s something for all levels of ability. So grab those running shoes, get moving and remember—stay hydrated!
Here’s a look at some of the races happening in August.
Central California Unity Race 3K and 5K Walk/Run, Fresno
When: Saturday, August 5

Mi Familia Vota and Binational Health Task Force have partnered together to host a race at Fresno’s Kearney Park. There will be vendors, live entertainment and the opportunity to take part in a variety of health screenings.
Fruit Tree 5K Walk/Run, Madera
When: Saturday, August 12
Cost: $20 ages 11-59, $10 for 10 & under, 60 & over (Prices increase day of race)

This race will produce fruits from your labor, literally! Each participant will receive a fruit tree of their choice. The inaugural race is taking place at Lions Town and Country Park and benefits Madera Special Needs Sports and Recreations.
Pinnacle Pup Run 2-Mile and 5-Mile Run, Fresno
When: Saturday, August 12
Cost: $30 with pet supply donation, $35 without

This one is for you and your pup. It’s taking place at Woodward Park and benefits local no-kill animal shelters. There are categories for dogs based on their size.
SAR (Search and Rescue) Wild Run Half-Marathon, 10K, 5K, Shaver Lake
When: Sunday, August 13
Cost: Half Marathon – $75 (price increases 8/1), 10K & 5K – $40 (prices increase 8/1)

This is one of the area’s most popular trail runs. The event benefits Fresno County Search and Rescue. The course is dirt, so plan for rocks and tree roots. There are hills, too. Finishers will receive a Bigfoot medal and enjoy a BBQ put on by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team.
Kare for Kidney 2-Mile Walk, 5K & 10K Run, Fresno
When: Saturday, August 19
Cost: 13 & over – $30, 12 & under – $15

The 4th annual Kare for Kidney race at Fresno’s Woodward Park helps raise awareness for kidney disease. The event, put on by the Fresno Nephrology Kidney Foundation, honors families affected by helping fund support groups and outreach programs, and provides financial assistance for those in need.
Campus Life 5K, Fresno
When: Saturday, August 26th
Cost: $30 – Adults, $15 – Kids (Prices increase 8/19)

The top three male and female racers will be awarded medals at this race held at Woodward Park. The event benefits Fresno/Madera Youth for Christ.
Be Your Own Hero 5K Walk/Run, Hanford
When: Sunday, August 27
Cost: $35 – Adults, $15 – Kids (Prices increase 8/1)

It’s your chance to be a super hero, or at least dress like one. This race in downtown Hanford benefits the Kings Rehabilitation Center.
