It’s that time again: We’re hitting the triple digits in Fresno. You’re all probably flocking for the pools or going out of town. Surviving summer in the Valley is a special art. I’d like to think I’ve honed my skills, seeing as how it’s my 25th summer here. That’s why I’ve put together a special FresYes Summer Survival Kit to address some of your heat-battling needs.
Ban Total Refresh Cooling Body Cloths
These deodorant wipes are at the top of my list. I discovered them before my trip to St. Louis last year. (If you want to talk about heat torture, visit the Midwest or the East Coast in the summer. Can you say humidity?!) They come in four scents. Not only do they help rid you of sweat and make you smell nice, but as the name says, they leave a gloriously cool feeling on your skin. I keep a pack in my purse all summer long. They’re great for after the gym, at the park, whatever! You can buy them in the travel section at Target.
Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Sunscreen
I’m a fan of all the Neutrogena sunscreens, but I usually use this one for a couple of reasons. One, I’m not a fan of getting my hands all greasy or trying to reach all my whole body with a traditional lotion. The spray makes application a lot easier. Plus, just like the Ban wipes, this sunscreen has an instant cooling effect on your body. You can buy this at Target, Walmart or any drugstore.
Peter Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45
This is a recent discovery of mine that solves a problem with using the Neutrogena spray. Mainly that I would try to spray it on my face and accidentally inhale it or get it in my eyes. Not fun. Then a Sephora employee introduced me to this totally genius powder sunscreen for your face. It’s easy to apply anywhere, and the brush retracts. No muss, no fuss. At $30, it’s certainly expensive, but worth every penny in my opinion.
O2 Cool Necklace Fan
OK, I will fully admit that these look sort of dorky when you have them on. But honestly, when you’re sitting outside at 110 degrees, will you really care? These battery-operated fans are AWESOME. The vents are at the top so they blow right up to your face. I wear one of these whenever I have to work an outdoor event in the summer. You can buy them on Amazon.
Vera Bradley Bags
Many of you are going to take a vacation to escape the heat for a time, I’m sure. I want to make sure you travel in comfort and style. I’ve developed an obsession with Vera Bradley’s travel line. I personally purchased a Trimmed Vera Tote from Top Drawer a few weeks ago to take with me on the plane. I love it because it’s super big and has tons of pockets. Vera Bradley makes lots of other travel bags and accessories, including an amazing rolling duffel bag, travel organizers, pill cases and so much more. You can buy Vera Bradley at lots of online retailers, but I personally recommend going to Top Drawer in Fig Garden. Owner Jane is an expert at finding you the perfect pieces to suit your needs!
Bag-all Organizing Bags
This is probably one of my favorite finds of the year. Because not only is it important to travel with the right luggage, but you have to stay organized as well. That’s why I love, love, LOVE these functional and fashionable organizing bags. I have the women’s four pack that includes bags for shoes, hair dryers, laundry and lingerie. (Honestly it’s worth it just to keep TSA from seeing your unmentionables when they check your suitcase!) You can buy them online at the Bag-all website.
