Happy New Year!!!
Goodbye 2014 and hello to 2015!
This is the time of year when lots of people make resolutions. What’s the most common New Year’s resolution? Well, according to to USA.gov (why they have this on their site is beyond me), these are the most popular New Year’s resolutions:
- Lose Weight
- Volunteer to Help Others
- Quit Smoking
- Get a Better Education
- Get a Better Job
- Save Money
- Get Fit
- Eat Healthy Food
- Manage Stress
- Manage Debt
- Take a Trip
- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
- Drink Less Alcohol (This one makes me laugh, because most people drink a lot on New Year’s Eve.)
The most popular answer (wow, my Family Feud addiction is now carrying over to my writing) is to lose weight. I’m curious, how many of you guys are vowing to lose weight? You know the gyms are extremely popular around January and February. By the time April rolls around, I bet the enrollment goes back to normal. I have a gym membership (which is collecting dust-but that’s a whole ‘nother post), and the gyms are always the busiest around the beginning of every year. I knew that if I just waited a few more months, there would soon be better parking, and the machines would be less busy. So, instead of you going out and wasting your money on a gym membership, let me give you an alternative way to lose weight. Actually my suggestion can help in more ways than one.
Yoga
Yep, that’s right, yoga. Have you ever tried yoga? If not, put it on your to-do list for 2015. I realize that yoga is not the popular work out trend as it once was, but it should be! One of my most favorite places to do yoga in Fresno is Perfect Balance Yoga.
I first went to Perfect Balance Yoga 10 years, or so, ago. At the time they offered a children’s yoga class, to which I took my now 12 year old daughter. That was also when I met one of the co-owner’s, Joanne, and I loved her from the moment I met her. Joanne is such a sweet and loving woman, and her spirit is welcoming and encouraging. Every time I would see her (and even to this day), she would make me feel loved and important. She always remembered stuff that was going on in my life, and she seemed interested in what I had to say. I think I continued to take my daughter to the children’s yoga just because I wanted to see Joanne. Seeing her was like seeing a friend. My daughter would go to get her body healthy, I would go to get my friendship meter filled. She is super supportive of mommies and families, and that’s a value I admire in a person, let alone a local business person.
Perfect Balance Yoga is located on the NW corner of Shaw and Fresno St. It’s tucked in the far north corner, to the left of the baseball store. It’s a quaint little studio, and you are instantly calmed once you walk in. They host an array of classes, for varying ability levels. There are also workshops and special events held every so often.
If you are interested in taking a class, but are new to yoga, Perfect Balance offers a deal where you can pay $30 for 10 days of classes. You can go to any classes (with the exception of the prenatal or a workshop), as many times as you’d like in the 10 days. This is helpful because then you can see what type of yoga you like best. If that doesn’t work, you can always do a community yoga class, which is only $5!!! That class is on Sunday’s at 4pm. There are lots of other options as well, so give one of them a try!
If you are nervous about taking a yoga class, don’t be! Joanne or Giovanni can answer any of your questions. They will educate you, and give you suggestions. They are very, very welcoming. In fact, they have more to offer than just yoga classes. Giovanni makes his own tea, owning Chai By Giovanni. You can buy yoga clothes, mats, music and other fun stuff. You can give them a call at 222-6212 if you want to chat before stopping by.
I truly love Perfect Balance Yoga, and how wonderful I feel after a session. (Albeit it’s been a while since I’ve done yoga.) So, if you’re looking for a place to help you get fit, try yoga this year. Perfect Balance Yoga will help you get healthy-spirit, mind and body. Such a perfect start to your new year!
