The Fresno State Men’s Basketball Team is back in action after a successful 2015-2016 season.
The Bulldogs kicked-off the regular season Friday, November 11th at the Save Mart Center.
They will play 15 home games, including two games this week. They take on Prairie View A&M Monday, November 14th at 7PM and Lamar Saturday, November 19th at 11AM.
The Bulldogs are once again led by head coach Rodney Terry. The team is looking to build on last season’s success.
They won 25 games and were the Mountain West Champions. Fresno State played in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament for the first time since 2001.
The Bulldogs excelled at home last season. They won 16 of 18 games played at the Save Mart Center.
Playing in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd is key to success on the court.
I’ve been attending Bulldog basketball games since I was a young child. My family has had season tickets since the 1970s.
Some of my favorite childhood memories were made at Selland Arena, where the Bulldogs formally played. Those games were loud. Fans would wrap around the court as they formed the “human tunnel” to welcome the team.
In the late 1990’s when hall of fame coach Jerry Tarkanian led the Bulldogs, tickets were in such high demand they were being sold by scalpers. Going to a basketball game was the thing. All the “who’s who” of Fresno was there.
When the Bulldogs moved to the Save Mart Center in 2003 the lower and upper decks had full crowds, but there were setbacks.
Despite turning out NBA stars Paul George and Tyler Johnson, fan support began to dwindle.
I however never stopped cheering on my Bulldogs. I’ve witnessed the team’s turnaround. I stomped my feet and clapped with joy as the Bulldogs pulled off some nail bitters last season.
Many of last year’s players are back and they are joined with new talent, including a local guy, Bryson Williams. The freshman led Fresno’s Roosevelt High School to their first Central Section Boys Basketball Title in 39 years.
As a proud Bulldog fan and Fresno State alumni, I ask you to give this team a chance. Show them your support. Come out to a game. Let’s pack the house! Create your own memories with your families.
Mountain West play begins December 28th. The final home game of the season will be March 4th.
Single game tickets start at $10 and are available at the Save Mart Center Box Office or by calling 278-Dogs or visiting GoBulldogs.com
