Gardeners can be a hard bunch to buy for. As with any other hobby or line of work, gardeners can be choosey and brand loyal. They can also rarely buy for themselves. So, a thoughtful gift geared toward the needs specific to gardening, would be accepted gratefully. I remember a Valentine’s Day early on in our marriage when my husband presented me with a large gardening pot filled with tools and gloves. Some wouldn’t have been that excited, but I thought it the most romantic gift ever. 🙂 So, here are some ideas that even the most difficult to buy for would love to receive. Great combined in a pot or use individually as stocking stuffers.
1. Gift Certificate: Now, there are those who would argue that gift certificates are impersonal, but choosing your own plants IS personal. Plus, when the recipient goes to redeem their gift card, they get to have Christmas all over again! Try a new nursery that they may not visit as frequently, like Evergreen Garden Center or Riverside Nursery.
2. Hand Cream: Crabtree & Evelyn Gardener’s Collection: This is a great collection of products designed just for the gardener in mind. I would take anything from the list, but their 60 Second Fix for Hands is exceptional. This is what Crabtree & Evelyn say about it: **Our Gardeners Hand Recovery cleanses, exfoliates and preps skin. Then our intensive Hand Therapy completes this treat for hard-working hands. It’s lasting moisture relief in almost no time at all.**
Pre de Provence hand cream: This is my new go-to hand cream for rough, winter skin. The shea butter is the perfect consistency; not too thin, not too thick. It also smells amazing. I have it in Verbena and it’s the perfect size to carry in my purse or bring along when traveling. {Locally carried at Evergreen Garden Center}
3. Stainless Steel Trowel: I love Lee Valley Tools and we order everything from hose parts to shovels from them. I first received this trowel as a gift and I love using it to transplant, plant annuals, and it’s great for bulb planting as well. Their trowels are made of heavy gauge stainless steel and designed to last a lifetime.
4.Stainless Steel Compost Pail: Also from Lee Valley Tools, these pails won’t absorb the smells and stains from food, but will look pretty enough to stay on the kitchen counter. Available in two sizes to choose from.
