Rocket Dog Gourmet Brats & Brew
We here at FresYes love when a local business succeeds – particularly when that business is especially deserving of that success. A year ago, I told you about the launch of Rocket Dog Gourmet Brats & Brew. I am now proud to report that not only are they about to celebrate their one-year anniversary, but their food is more delicious than ever.
On the surface, Rocket Dog is pretty self-explanatory: They serve brats and brew. But they’re about much more than that. The restaurant, located on Blackstone & Shaw next to Skechers Outlet, elevates their bratwursts, hot dogs, chicken sausages and more to a whole new level.
For example, on my latest visit, my parents and I had The Napa Dog (a sweet chicken sausage on a grilled baguette with fig-onion jam, crumbled goat cheese, balsamic reduction drizzle and fresh basil chiffonade), Hansel’s Heaven (a bratwurst on a grilled pretzel roll with ketchup and mac & cheese), and The Resolution Buster (so named because it’s a beef hot dog on a plain bun with crispy french fries, cheddar cheese sauce, sweet grilled onions, and special sauce). They were all completely different but delicious in their own ways, and they all come with the most addicting homemade russet potato chips.
As far as the “brews” part of Rocket Dog goes, they put an emphasis on serving local and state beers bottled and on tap. Featured Fresno breweries include Tioga Sequoia and Full Circle Brewing. As part of their anniversary week events, Rocket Dog will be partnering with several brewing companies. On Thursday, September 1st, there will be a tap takeover by Tiago Sequoia and Firestone Walker (from Paso Robles), and customers will be able to “steal the glass(es).” Then on Saturday, September 3rd, Fresno-based Tactical Ops will have a Tap Takeover and Steal the Glass event. The final Tap Takeover and Steal the Glass event will feature Lagunitas of Petaluma on Thursday, September 8th.
For those of us who aren’t craft beer drinkers, we can celebrate by enjoying “buy one get one half off” hot dogs all week (September 5th through the the 11th). To kick off the celebrations on September 5th, customers will also get a Rocket Dog logo glass with each transaction.
Rocket Dog’s owners – Kevin & Sarah Lisitsin and Gary & Bethany Hsia – are two couples who met through church. Rocket Dog’s mascot is the adorable Lucy, a real life dog who dresses up just like the logo. Over their first year, the team’s commitment to being local has extended beyond the sourcing of its food and drinks. They have partnered with many community organizations to hold fundraising events, including Valley Children’s Hospital, Westside Rescue, Fresno Bully Rescue and Valley Animal Center. Dogs are especially close to their hearts because Gary & Bethany are veterinarians.
So not only is Rocket Dog unique and delicious, but they give back to Fresno as well. I LOVE that! If you’ve never tried one of their brats, now is the perfect time to check them out. And if you’re already a fan, make sure you go celebrate with them! You can find more information about Rocket Dog Gourmet Brats & Brews on their Facebook and website.
