I’m turning 30 in about 6 months, and a friend suggested a couple of weeks ago that I should make a list of things I wanted to do before I turned the big 3-0. A sort of bucket list for the end of my twenties. I started thinking about a lot of things in Fresno that I had either wanted to do or hadn’t done in a long time.
Then I started asking friends for ideas. They had tons of them. And not all of them made my #30before30 list. But I thought I would share some of the best ones in case you ever want to make a list of your own! It could be for anything. A bucket list. The “Things I Want to Do in Fresno” list. I even have someone who says she is going to make a #70before70 list, to do over 4 years!
Eat Something Weird at the Fresno Fair
I know there’s going to be plenty of options for this. For example, I’ve never been brave enough to try the fried frog legs. But I did love the garlic kettle corn, and I’ve done chocolate-covered bacon before! Since the menus and stands change every year, I’m going to have to wait until October rolls around to see what “weird” is going to be. Another suggestion from the fair is to attend the horse races, something I did a couple years ago that was pretty fun!
Become a Zoo Member
I’ve always thought our Fresno Chaffee Zoo is superb, but I’m even more excited after the recent tour that FresYes got to go on of the upcoming African Adventures. It’s going to be amazing, and zoo members will get the first look at the new exhibit! You can support our amazing zoo and become a member here for a fairly reasonable price.
Drive a Go-Kart
As someone who wishes life was one big game of Mario Kart, I love go-karting. It’s something I haven’t done in years, though. I’ve been meaning to try out the MB2 Raceway at Sierra Vista Mall for a while. If you want something less intense, Boomers in Fresno has a smaller track.
Attend a Fresno State Game
A lot of friends suggested tailgating at a football game to me. I’m all for getting together in the name of sports! I’m more of a baseball girl, though, so I put a Fresno State baseball game on my list. I love good ol’ fashioned pingball, especially accompanied by the baseball bingo at Bulldogs games.
See a Musical
There are soooo many great choices for this one! My personal goal is to visit Roger Rocka’s for the first time in many years. Another of course is to catch an off-Broadway show at the Saroyan Theatre. There’s an option you probably haven’t thought of, though, that can be just as much fun: catch a performance by your local high school! It’s a much more economical choice, and it can be just as fun!
Food Trucks at Gazebo Garden
I’ve been meaning to visit this Friday night hotspot forever because I’ve heard so many rave reviews. Whether you go to Gazebo Gardens or another food truck meet-up, trying the latest gourmet offerings from the best Fresno chefs should definitely be on your list! My personal favorites are Tako BBQ and Benaddiction.
Take a Class
It’s never too late to learn something new, right? I got so many different suggestions of classes I should take: yoga, cooking, pottery, photography. It’s a great way to try something while learning about a local business. I’m personally looking at classes at the Fresno Adult School. You wouldn’t believe the number of different options!
See a Play at the Woodward Shakespeare Festival
It’s not too late to do this before the end of the summer! The latest season at Woodward Park actually goes through mid-September. Just grab a blanket, a picnic and some friends. The best part is the shows are completely free!
So those are some of my choices for a Fresno To-Do List. What are some of yours? We’ve love to see your comments below!
