Sometimes it’s hard to keep up on all the local foodie news, so here’s a taste of what’s been happening around town in the last few weeks (and a few extra tidbits from me).
Lots of New Restaurants Opening Downtown – The Fresno Bee reported three new spots: Take 3 (a burger joint on the Fulton Mall), Cafe Aroma Coffee House, and Big D’s Tri-Tip.
Not reported: All the rage about the pho (and the broth!) right now at Saigon Deli – perfect for the cold weather season!
Fresno Loves Pumpkin Stuff – Reporter Bob Rodriguez featured pumpkin-flavored dishes from Capo’s by Giuseppe Gallo’s, a spicy pumpkin breakfast pizza by Visalia blogger Bon Appetit Paleo, and talked about pumpkin ice cream at Jeb’s Swedish Creamery in Kingsburg.
Not reported (officially): Bon Appetit Paleo’s pizza recipe got picked up by Fox News shortly after it was published. Go, Visalia! And of course, if you missed 4 Ways to Use Pumpkin Butter, there’s still time for experimentation.
A Yummy Bahn Mi Recipe: The Fresno Bee didn’t talk about the Saigon Deli pho (mentioned above), however, Saigon’s Vietnamese sandwich was featured in this article about the growing local popularity of the dish (plus a recipe).
Not reported: My favorite sandwich at Bun Mee in SF: braised Kurobuta pork belly, salted radish relish, shaved onion, pickled carrot and daikon, cucumber, jalapeños, cilantro. Bun Mee is a cute, trendy little place that you should try next time you’re in the Bay area and just want a light bite to eat.
