The 21st Annual Fresno High Neighborhood Holiday Home Tour
If you love history and architecture then you will no doubt find the Old Fresno High Neighborhood to be very charming.
Many of the homes were built in the 1920s and 1930s. There’s a mix of small and large homes. Many are Tudor, Bungalow and Craftsman style.
The neighborhood surrounds Fresno High, which was built in the 1920s and is located on Echo, near McKinley and Palm.
In the first half of the 20th century many of Fresno’s most well-to-do families lived in these homes.
Today, many of the houses still have original features including built-in cabinets and hardwood floors.
Now is your chance to see some of these homes in person, all dressed in their holiday best!
The 21st Annual Fresno High Neighborhood Holiday Home Tour is Monday, December 5th from 6pm-9pm.
Four charming, vintage homes will be featured. Student docents from Fresno High will be stationed in each of the homes. They will tell you about the history of the houses, will point out special features, and are available to answer questions.
I have attended the Fresno High Neighborhood Holiday Home Tour several times. It’s a lot of fun. I’ve gone with one of my girlfriends. She’s an interior decorator and enjoyed seeing how homes from that era have been restored and in some cases expanded.
For me, it’s a real treat to learn the history of these classic homes. I’m a bit of a Fresno history junkie. I love how these homes aren’t like anything else you would find in some of the newer neighborhoods. They each have such character and I respect the care the homeowners have given them.
Not only does the tour help get you into the holiday spirit; it’s also a wonderful fundraiser. Proceeds benefit projects in the Fresno High Neighborhood and also support a fund that helps students in need at Fresno High.
The Fresno High Neighborhood Association puts on the Holiday Home Tour. Their goal is to preserve and promote the historical, architectural and cultural resources of this prominent Fresno neighborhood while also fostering a sense of community and goodwill.
Tickets are $25 dollars and can be purchased online at FresnoHighHomeTour.com or in person at Gazebo Gardens, Top Drawer, The Vintage Market at 601 and Quality Carpets Design Center.
Participants will learn the exact locations of the four homes featured on the tour once tickets are purchased.
