Get ready for some outlandish looks, Fresno. Art and fashion are about to collide most spectacularly on the runway at Trashique 2018.
The long-running gala fundraiser event for the Fresno Art Museum will once again center on its signature fashion show featuring artist-designed couture with a shocking twist: the garments we see sashaying down the catwalk will be made out of garbage!
Now, we’ve all heard how one person’s trash is another person’s treasure, but in this case, it’ll be a team of 47 artists transforming trash into couture for the hour-long multimedia show. Creating these dazzling ensembles of reconstituted detritus is no easy feat; ensuring their wearability is another hurdle altogether. The mix of amateur and professional models who will pilot these pieces up and down the stage are brave indeed.
On hand to help will be some of Fresno’s most boldly talented makeup and hair wizards, working hurriedly behind the scenes to create hairstyles and apply face paints that perfectly complement each model’s outlandish garbage garb.
For anyone who just can’t imagine the idea of clothing made out of trash, take a look at this video taken by The Collegian and featuring looks from the 2012 Trashique event.
While the outlandish concept at its heart gives the Trashique show a funky edge, the evening nevertheless promises to be elegant and full of glamor, with V.I.P. tickets ($224.18 each) that include a dinner feast with wine, catered by Pardini’s, as well as music provided by violinist Patrick Contreras.
General admission tickets are $70 each, and include desserts and champagne, a no-host bar, and the opportunity to mingle with the artists and models. The price of these tickets will go up to $85 after Saturday, Feb. 10, so don’t miss out on your last chance to get the special advanced pricing.
Trashique 2018 takes place on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Signature Support Hangar near the Fresno Yosemite International Airport at 3050 North Winery Avenue (at Shields) in Fresno. For tickets and more information, visit the Fresno Art Museum website or EventBrite, or call (559) 441.4221.
