Recently, FresYes has given you the heads up about a wide variety of concerts, from Jay Z to the Foo Fighters to Janet Jackson. Now get ready for one of the wildest shows this town has seen in awhile.
If you’re looking for something unique to do this weekend, head to Arte Américas Saturday at 7 p.m. where the world’s first metal mariachi band, Metalachi, will be preforming.
The band consists of classically trained mariachi players. However, Metalachi brings a lot of extra to the genre of mariachi: extra make-up, extra jokes, and extra metal. They have actually invented a new style of music. Covering songs from Metallica to Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, it’s hard to know what to expect when the group performs. And it’s pretty surprising how great “Master of Puppets” sounds with a trumpet.
Metalachi is so flamboyant and entertaining, they were featured on Season 10 of America’s Got Talent. People who attend their shows have to pack a sense of humor and an open mind. Because the band is bombastic and tells spicy jokes, this show isn’t for children under 13.
Of course, if a mariachi band that covers metal music isn’t enough for you, there will also be food trucks. Not only can you eat and be entertained, you can also purchase adult beverages. In fact, there’s a Metalachi margarita available too, so if you want to really let your hair down, order the Metalachi-rita.
Where can you find tickets? You can get them on Arte América’s website here, or at the door.
You can also follow the event page here on Facebook. Finally, there’s always the band’s official website here, where you can read their pretty unbelievable (and probably mostly untrue) band biography, as well as sample their music.
I can’t think of a more unusual way to spend a Saturday night in Fresno. If you have a better idea, let me know. I would love to see what could top a metal music-playing mariachi band.
In the meantime, check out Metalachi covering Guns ‘n Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” in their special way below.
