A concert to benefit the owners of Tokyo Garden has been scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9, at Fulton 55 in downtown Fresno.
The Fresno Bee reported in September that Tommy Yoshioka, who owns and operates the restaurant and music venue with his brother Toshi and Toshi’s wife Esko, was seriously injured in a car accident. With Tommy unable to return to work, Toshi and Esko are having trouble maintaining the 61-year-old restaurant.
Tokyo Garden has featured in the late-night experiences of many Fresnans. I wrote last January about how the old-time bars and hangouts in Fresno have all but disappeared, and it seems Tokyo Garden may be the next to go. Although this would be a huge loss for Fresno, it’s too selfish to expect the Yoshioka family to continue to struggle to keep the doors open.
And right now the family could use some help. The December benefit will be hosted by Nate Butler and will include stories from performing bands of their experiences and memories at Tokyo Garden. The line-up of bands for the concert includes:
• The Roger Perry Band
• Debi Ruud and the Trainspotters
• Blake Jones and the Trike Shop
• Rockville
• Thunderbolt 650
• Sparklejet
• Fulton’s Folly
This is a 21 and over event. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here. All ticket sales and raffle purchases will go to the Yoshioka family.
