Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are some fun suggestions for events happening in Fresno and beyond.
Friday
Kick off the weekend by visiting St. Paul Church’s 7th annual Armenian Festival. The fun begins at 4:30 p.m. There will be food, music, shopping, kids’ activities, and more.
The Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s Evenings on the Savannah series lets you enjoy extended hours, live music, and food and drink specials at the zoo. Entrance is regular zoo admission.
At 5:30 and again at 8:30 p.m., Fresno Filmworks will present its monthly showing. Oh Lucy! is presented in Japanese with English subtitles. Cost is $10 general admission, $8 for students and seniors.
Also at 5:30 p.m. Common Space and My LGBT Plus will hold an open house. Take the tour to find out what this welcoming space is all about.
The Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing at Fresno State presents an evening with author and faculty member Steven Church as part of the Fresno Poets’ Association reading series. This will be held at Alice Peters Auditorium at Fresno State at 7 p.m. Free admission and parking.
Theater fans, you’ll want to hit up A Streetcar Named Desire at Fresno State at 7:30 p.m., Mamma Mia at Roger Rocka’s at 7:30 p.m., or The Heiress at 2nd Space Theatre at 8 p.m. All three plays have performances throughout the weekend.
It’s Totally 80s Rewind at Strummer’s at 9 p.m. This free, 21+ event features DJ Numbskull & Duckie D’albino providing aural and visual delights, plus an 80s costume contest, dance-off, Name That Tune, and giveaways.
Saturday
The Old Town Flea Market is taking place at the Clovis Rodeo Grounds Saturday and Sunday. General admission tickets are $5; early bird is $10.
It’s the Second Saturday at M Street Arts Complex beginning at 12 p.m. Enjoy a collection of art exhibitions. Admission and parking are free.
Mother’s Day Mayhem: A Derby Tribute to Mothers will see the Central California Area Derby take on the Rough Diamond Rebels. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10.
2018 Draggin’ the Main: Fulton Street Cruise Nights are back. Enjoy seeing classic cars drive Fulton Street every second Saturday of the month. Cruising officially begins two hours before sunset.
Fresno Grizzlies players who helped the Houston Astros to their 2017 World Series title will be recognized and presented with their World Championship Rings in a pre-game ceremony prior to their game against the Salt Lake Bees. Ceremony will start around 6:45 p.m.
Fresno Zombie Society hosts its Comic Crawl 2018 in the Tower District beginning at 7:30 p.m. Comic-inspired costumes are encouraged but not required. Wristbands are $5.
Sunday
Mom Jumps Free at Skywalk in Madera starting at 10 a.m.!
At 1 p.m., take your mom to Goldstein’s Mortuary and Delicatessen for Beermosa for Mama. Beer and juice—what could go wrong?
Or go with the traditional brunch route at one of these fine establishments:
Enjoy live music and wine tasting at Engelmann Cellars at 1 p.m.
Or take mom to a ball game. The Fresno Grizzlies play the Salt Lake Bees, and the Tecate Cantina will be serving brunch from 11:35 a.m. to 1:05 p.m.
After the game, hit up Veni Vidi Vici for some dancing with mom at Cumbia De Las Madres. This free event starts at 4 p.m.
Or enjoy some live jazz from Randy Freeman at Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Co. starting at 3 p.m.
