Since my family and I found out about Hillcrest Christmas Tree Farm in Reedley, each year we go out there to look for a tree. There is just something satisfying about riding back down the 180 into FresYes with a fluffy green thing on our car roof.
Already have a tree? Take the family out for a train ride! It is really for all ages. I mean… I’m a grown woman and I love it. It’s relaxing for the adults and exciting for the kids. Hillcrest is a big deal when it comes to trains. They’ve made them from scratch for many years and are responsible for building and restoring trains for other places across California. Their trains are kept in incredible condition for visitors and are beautiful to look at up close.
Besides the train, the property is fun to roam around on foot. When you first get there, you walk up a hill through trees with a cute hidden house and castle the kids can explore. There is an awesome tree house, which is shown in the video, and Santa is available for photos!
Owner of Hillcrest, Melissa Bautista (who was kind enough to take a break from flocking Christmas trees to do an interview with me), says opening weekend is always popular. They are open every day to sell trees but the train and food vendors are available on Saturdays and Sundays. They have other events including their PAJAMA CHRISTMAS! On special nights, families can ride the train at night through stars and lights in their jammies. Imagine this with a cup of hot cocoa in your hand. Mmmagical!
Hillcrest is a super easy day trip with an awesome view of the Sierra Nevada on the way. Located at 6943 S Reed Ave, Reedley, CA 93654, you just take the 180 E and let the road curve and take you straight onto S Reed Ave. For more information on Hillcrest Christmas Tree Farm, including a detailed history on their trains, check out HillcrestReedley.com!
In my video above, Bautista talks a little about Hillcrest and what it has to offer. If you haven’t been there, it’ll likely become a holiday tradition for your family like it has with mine.
